20th Century Literary Problem
liner notes

Everyone knows by now that this was originally recorded by 100,000 Fireflies (me and Lori Berkemeyer) back in 1996 and later done by The Mnemonic Devices in 1998. The artwork was drawn many times, little cartoons of the boy and the girl, in essentially the same settings, until it was refined into the front cover, which is still--in my mind--a perfect representation of what TMD is all about: cartoonish and sad and colorful and fake and magic and all these elements in the picture and clinging and longing and separating and all this stuff.

Everything else is black.

100,000 Fireflies Version

The first image is the cartoon I drew for the tape version.  The photographs (that Noby took one cold day at Mirror Lake in Jackson, MS) were for the CD version--my first release on CD.  The cover is meant to look like the famous B&W picture of Stephin's mom in front of a car (adding the keyboard and mic).  This is the only CD I've ever done with an "underneath" photo--whatever you call that part that goes under the CD itself in the jewel case.
